Pregnancy Loss FAQs: What You Might Be Wondering

What should I expect physically after pregnancy loss?

Every body is different. You might experience heavy bleeding, cramping, and hormonal shifts for a few days to a few weeks. If you had a D&C or medical management, your recovery may look a little different. We always recommend following up with your provider if bleeding gets heavy or you’re unsure what’s normal.

We’ve gathered a few gentle, practical miscarriage recovery essentials to help care for you as both your heart and body heal.

How do I take care of myself emotionally after loss?

There’s no right way to grieve, and no timeline, either. After pregnancy loss, you might feel sad, numb, angry, confused, or all of the above. Give yourself permission to feel it all. Journaling, therapy, nature, and connecting with others who’ve been through it can help.

No matter where you are in your healing, please know this: your feelings are valid, your grief is real, and you’re not alone in this. Be gentle with yourself, you’re doing the best you can.

Can I try to conceive again after a failed pregnancy?

While every body and situation is different, many providers suggest waiting until after one full menstrual cycle. But emotionally? That’s deeply personal. Some people need time and space after pregnancy loss, and others feel ready sooner.

There’s no right answer, only your answer. A gentle check-in with your OB or midwife can help guide what’s best for you.

What helped other women feel normal again after a pregnancy loss?

Every journey is different, but so many of us find healing in the little things.

For some, it’s moving or dancing every day, with the phrase “change your motion to change your emotion” becoming a quiet, everyday mantra.

It might look like long calls to your mom, sisters, or best friends. Journaling. Walking. Or simply resting while watching The Great British Baking Show.

Others find comfort in therapy, quiet rituals, turning to their faith, time in nature, or simply letting themselves feel, without rushing to “move on.”

There’s no right way. Only what helps you feel a little more like yourself again, one small step at a time.
